As president and principle designer for the
Pyranak Design Group, Ted Mengers uses his
background as an architectural, interior and
product designer to create the Pyranak
Style.
With a degree in Architecture
from the University of Texas, by apprenticed
to several of the best designers of large
custom residences in Texas. As a staff
architect at Frank Peerman & Assoc.
Architects, Ted contributed to the design
and documentation of several large
residences in Corpus Christi, Texas. In
charge of production at Roger Rasbach
Associates, Ted oversaw and coordinated the
design and drafting of the plans for the
residence of design consultant to architects
and interior designers, including the design
of the San Antonio Retama Polo Center and
Steve Gose Residence.
Ted has been an instructor in
the Interior Design department of the Art
Institute of Houston, teaching architecture,
drafting, and interior design courses.
In recent past, Ted created his
own furniture manufacturing company to
provide the interiors for many of the jobs
he was creating. He produced furniture,
accessories, lamps, mirror frames, cast
pottery and planters, ironwork, and
architectural elements, which were sold to
interior designers and manufacturers. Some
of his designs became so well known, that
they appeared in Cartoon Comics such as
Bizzarro, and over 36 different
magazines and newspapers in the last 25
years.
Building Green:
While designing for Roger
Rasbach Associates, Ted began to research
energy efficient living and the new
technologies that were available to the
public for energy efficient homes. Ted is
one of the leading pioneers in Structural
Insulated Panels (SIPs) and has been
implementing them into his drawings for over
12 years. Ted has been designing with SIPs
for longer than most SIP designers have been
around, and has the most experience with
them in the Houston area. He has built
energy efficient homes, apartment complexes
and residents using his energy efficient
techniques.
Ted continues his practice as an
architectural and interior design
consultant, as well as green design
consultation. Ted gives lectures to present
and future homeowners about what Green
Design means, and the methods involved in
building better homes for the future. Ted is
constantly trying to educate the public on
the importance of energy efficient designing
and building, finding the right builder, and
making sure your home is built correctly so
it doesnt fall apart within two years of
completion.
