ASSOCIATIONS

There is no movement influencing today’s home-building industry more significant than the progress to building to conserve energy and natural resources. PDG has focused its practice on designing with green building and sustainable design principles. Some associations include:

Member US Green Building Council

The USGBC’s LEED rating system is the premier industry benchmark by which green buildings are evaluated. The residential version will be implemented in 2006. PDG is already designing using its criteria.

Member Austin Green Building Program

The Austin GBP was one of the first and still the best rating system nationwide for residences. Though official certification is only given to projects in their service area, PDG currently designs to their standards, consistently earning 4 out of 5-star ratings. Achieving the 5th star is often attainable with the cooperation of the contractors.

Ted Mengers has ongoing building projects of his own, including the first resource-and energy-efficient town home complex in Houston currently in production.

Member Structural Insulated Panel Association

PDG uses proven alternative building materials where appropriate. The single most beneficial of currently available alternative materials are Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs). Ted Mengers has spent the last 10 years researching and building with these panels and is regarded as one the foremost experts in SIPs in this region.
